Whole house fans pull fresh, cool air from outside through open windows and exhaust hot, stale air through your attic vents for an overall cooler home environment. They are ideal for residential use in mild to moderate climates as a supplement to air conditioning. 

Whole House Fan selection takes in a number of factors. First and foremost is the size of the space you want to cool. The number, quality, type and size of vents that you are able to install in your attic will also be a crucial factor when considering the size of the fan you choose.

For example, you may have 3,000 square feet of living area, but if you have a two-story house, your attic will probably only be around 1,500 sq. ft. It will be very difficult—if not impossible—to install an adequate quantity of exhaust vents in a 1,500 sq. ft. attic for a 36 in. fan to operate properly and safely. For this reason, we advise that you primarily consider the size of your attic when choosing the size of your fan. To install a fan that is oversized for your attic (and with insufficient NFA) will not only cause the the attic to become over-pressurized and cause the louvers to malfunction and be noisy, but it could cause the motor to overheat and fail prematurely.

The second biggest factor is if you are replacing an existing unit or you are installing a whole house fan for the first time. For replacement whole house fans, a traditional style may best fit the existing opening for your fan. For a new installation, a ducted.modern style whole house fan may be best suited for your application.
